Podcast Advent Day 11: Rebel Spirit

It's day 11 and we're bringing in another series - Rebel Spirit (and this time there is no pay wall, sorry about that with Serial... there didn't use to be one and the fact that there is one now is HIGHLY disappointing to me).

Anyway, Rebel Spirit is one journalists exploration of her hometown High School's mascot and her attempt to change it from the Rebel to the Biscuit and ultimately make it not racist.

Akilah Hughes returns to her home town of Florence, Kentucky to speak to current students, school and school board administrators, as well as what can only be described as team mascot/branding experts, to understand how to make this change happen and what has stopped it from happening before.

What I appreciate about Akilah's story is the persistence in which she approaches this mission and how she brings others along for the ride - both as a way to build strength and momentum, but also to give others a space for telling their story and what it was like to be Boon County Rebel.

It's definitely not an easy journey, and hopefully you're hooked enough to listen til the end!
