Podcast Advent Day 4: You're Wrong About

Today's podcast introduces who will reappear a few times on this list - Michael Hobbs. In this example, You're Wrong About, Mike works with Sarah Marshall to alternate and deep dive into a subject which, as the title suggests, as a society, we have misunderstood.

Mike will typically share a story or a situation that revolves around public policy, giving a new lens to something that we've been wrongly informed about, or an incident where there's more to it than meets the eye, for example, the Exxon Valdez Oil spill. Sarah's topics often focus on a woman who has been inaccurately portrayed or who's telling misses something key, almost as a miscarriage of justice. The catalogue includes Tonya Harding, and Anna Nicole Smith.

Their podcast is a great example of holding and exploring that either 1) we really didn't know and having someone explore the topic in detail that you didn't know you wanted to know about, or 2) something we think we know about and they blow that out of the water, both with facts and a play of the facts.

I love this podcast because it was the first time I heard topics I didn't even realise were contentious, discussed in a way that challenged my understanding of much bigger systems such as media or the government. This is a great gift.

The episode I'm putting on the calendar today is on Monica Lewinsky, a topic I needed to be challenged having grown up in the 90s. It's really interesting how even the biggest strokes we carry forward with us from a time when we were less capable of critiquing what we were hearing and seeing truly reflect this (lack of) skillset.
