Podcast Advent Day 9: Empire
This is one of those series recommendations and it's a hefty history buff's dream as it shares lot of detail around how Britain came to rule India. The podcast is told through historians, one of whom is of Indian descent but born, bred and lives in Britain and one who is of British descent who lives in India. They walk through the British Empire's history as a means to provide education, particularly for Brits who simply are not taught.
The podcast describes itself as telling the facts and not adding opinion, and from what I've heard, they still shine a light on at least the immediate effects of this on India. The details are there, and they share what would have been current day primary sources to 'show their work'.
I suspect there will be listeners who feel it's too much and some who feel it's too little and given I am learning about it through this classic westernised history lesson style for the 1st time, I can't fully judge. I know I appreciate the current context I learn predominantly from friends on it's impact so I guess this podcast felt like a starting place for my own learning, and I think it can be for you too fellow 🇬🇧🇨🇦
